Cultural Places to Visit

Corfu has many cultural places to visit, Museums, Churches and Monasteries and Historical Sites. Many are centered around the town but there are plenty featured throughout the island. One famous museum is Achilleion Palace featuring the statue of Achilles. This is situated in a village called Gastouri just south of Corfu Town. Another is Mon Repos Palace, situated in the centre of Mon Repos park just on the outskirts of the town. This palace once belonged to the Greek royal family. Popular Monasteries include Paleokastritsa Monastery and the Monastery of Pantokratoras situated on the highest point of Corfu. Historical themes include many fortresses and castles around Corfu but two main ones are situated in the town of Corfu itself. One thing is for sure you will need plenty of time in Corfu to visit all it has to offer.
